Miriam Bella Abrahamson (1913 - 2018)

Miriam Bella Abrahamson is the sister of Dorothy Sophia Abrahamson, the 2nd wife of my maternal grandfather Marcus Levin. Abrahamson family HERE

In the 1939 register Miriam and Abraham are living at 15 Southgate, Manchester, England. Abraham is a manager of a retail pharmacy and a certified masseur (part-time). Miriam's occupation is listed as unpaid domestic duties. She had to resign from her teaching job when she got married but during the war she returned to it


Biographical information
Born on 14 November 1913 in Upper Canning Street, Liverpool. Schooled at Ducie Street and Ardwick on Grecian Street in Manchester. In 1923 she won a scholarship to Manchester High School and in 1925 went to Leeds teacher training college. Worked as a teacher in Manchester. When married on 1 June 1938 had to give up her job in Salford, Manchester. Went back to teaching in war and taught in a school in Irlam. Both her children, Janet and Geoffrey were born in the Urmston Cottage hospital. Her husband changed their name by deed poll from Feil to Fields in 1947. In 1948 Abraham bought the chemist shop he was manager of and Miriam went to help him until he retired

Miriam celebrated her 100th birthday 14 November 2013. She had cards from the Queen, the Pensions minister and the new Chief Rabbi. A party was held for her at the Whitefield golf club on 24 November 2013. 60 plus people attended the buffet lunch. In January 2015 she went to Heathlands nursing home and subsequently had a fall and broke her hip. She had a hip replacement on 26 January 2018 and died on 6 November 2018.
