Hannah Rosenberg (1906 - 1967)

Hebrew nameChana, daughter of Abraham

Married: Augustus Dudley Schulman in Manchester in (January to March) 1932. Dudley was 34 and Hannah 25 years old. On 20 August 1943 Augustus changed his name by deed poll from Augustus Dudley Schulman to Dudley Sheldon and his wife and children also changed their surnames from Schulman to Sheldon



I, DUDLEY SHELDON of 30 Hereford Drive Prestwich in the county of Lancaster heretofore called and known by the name of Gustave Dudley Schulmann (known as Augustus Dudley Schulman) a natural born British subject, hereby give public notice that on the 20th day of August 1943 I formally and absolutely renounced and abandoned the use of my said names of Gustave Dudley Schulmann (known as Augustus Dudley Schulman) and assumed and adopted in place thereof the names of Dudley Sheldon; and further that such change of name is evidenced by a deed poll dated the 29th day of August 1943 under my hand and seal duly executed by me and attested and enrolled in the Enrolment Department of the Central Office of the Supreme Court of Judicature on the 6th day of September 1943.

Their first child was born in 1933 when Augustus was 35 and Hannah 26. Their last child was born in 1935 when Augustus was 37 and Hannah 28

Hannah is living with her parents Abraham and Nellie and her siblings at 49 Elizabeth Street, Cheetham, Manchester.  living at 332 Bury New Road, Broughton, Manchester in a seven roomed house. Abraham is 38 and a cap manufacturer. Nellie is 36. Their children are Florrie age 13, Sydney age 12, Harry age 10, Myer age 9, Hannah age 4 and Gertie age 11 months. All the children are born in Manchester. Living with them is their cousin Thebe Moses, age 36 and born in Liverpool


1939 Register
In 1939 Hannah and Augustus are living at 30 Hereford Drive, Prestwich, Manchester. Augustus is a commercial traveller for electrical novelties. Living with them is their daughter Sybil, their son Michael age 4 and Augustus's parents, Bernard Shulman, a retired jeweller age 75 and his wife Yetta, age 71. Also living at the property is Hugo Cohn age 55, a motor car salesman and his wife Thekla age 48


Death
25 January 1967 in Manchester, at 60 years of age. Buried in section EN in the Crumpsall Jewish cemetery, Manchester, England 

In ever loving memory of Hannah (Nannie) Sheldon, who died 25th January 1967, 14th Shevat 5727, aged 60 years. Deeply missed by her devoted husband, son, daughter, son-in-law, brothers, sisters, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends. "The Angels are enriched but have left us poor indeed."

Probate

Hannah Sheldon Probate 19 April 1967. Her address is listed as 30 Hereford Drive Prestwich (Manchester) Lancashire and she died on 25 January 1967 at the Jewish Home for the aged in Salford (Manchester). The value of her estate is listed as  £5,133

Residences
In the 1911 census the family were living at 332 Bury New Road, Broughton, Manchester. The house appears to no longer exist, for it is now a primary school


In the 1939 register, Augustus and Hannah and their family are living at  30 Hereford Drive, Swinton, Manchester. They lived there until their deaths in 1967

Hannah (Annie) Fine (1899 - 1997)

Hannah Fine, known as Annie, is the wife of Harold Rosenberg, known as Harry, my maternal 3rd cousin 2x removed. Rosenberg family tree Here

Parents: Phillip Fine (1863 - 1942) and Deborah (Dora) David (1867 - 1937)


JOSEPH DAVID FINE
His father (Philip) and mother (Devera) came from Romania. Brother Wolfie was his father's son (he was widowed when he married Devera). They came to Manchester and all the children were born there. Ray born ?, Louis born ?, Joseph born April 1898, Annie born 1899, Ruse born 1901, Solly born
?. 

He went to school in Manchester and left school young to work on the markets buying and selling scarves, lace etc. They lived in a small terraced house. They felt that there were better opportunities in Canada. I think Louis went first - he was more  aggressive and started business there first. When he was 16 he came to Montreal. He started a business with 2 friends making raincoats Louis David (a cousin) and Mr Ordiver.

Solomon Fine born in Manchester and died in Montreal (20 July 1902 - 24 April 1974)

Philip and Deborah Fine are both buried in the Baron de Hirsch Cemetery in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Living with them are 5 boarders, all born in Romania


1911
The family is still living at 32 Melbourne Street, Broughton, Manchester, England. Her father, Philip Fine, is age 48 and a Market traveller in drapery on his own account. Her mother is Dora Fine, age 44. The children are Wolf age 21 and also a market traveller, Rachel age 19 and a finisher in ladies' waterproofs, Louis age 16 is a clerk to a financiar, and all born in Romania. Joseph age 12, Hannah age 11, Rosa age 10, and Solomon age 8 are all born in Manchester and are all at school. The dwelling has 6 rooms


Immigration to Canada in 1914

Hannah and her family (Phillip, Dora, Hannah, Rose, and Solomon) emigrated to Montreal, Canada, aboard the ship Hesperian departing Liverpool, England and arriving at St John's, Newfoundland, Canada, on 10 December 1914. Phillip's occupation is listed as a tailor and their intended destination is Montreal

Information
Harry had a dress factory and Annie was a designer at the beginning. Her brother Solomon became a partner in the business. Annie was a good cook and sewer.

Death
15 February 1997 in Montreal, Canada, at 97 years of age. Buried at Baron de Hirsch  Cemetery, Montreal, Canada, Line 17L grave 1617



Annie Rosenberg a hard working and generous woman. Sept. 18 1899 - Feb, 15 1997. Hebrew translation "Chana, daughter of Fishel, died 8 Adar I 5757. May her soul be bound up in the bond of (eternal) life."

In both the 1901 and 1911 census the family were living at 32 Melbourne Street, Broughton, Manchester. The property no longer exists
