Muriel Glynn, Teacher, Back From Europe : Says People Here Can't Realize How Bad Conditions Are

Miss Muriel Glynn, Passaic school teacher, arrived Wednes-day afternoon, on board the Cunard liner Queen Mary after a six-day voyage from Southampton, England.

The ship was scheduled to dock early Tuesday morning but heavy winter storms in mid-Atlantic forced the vessel to reduce speed. Miss Glynn spent six months visiting with relatives in London and Liverpool. She sailed for Europe on the Ernie Pyle.

"People here in this country never can hope to understand how hard conditions are in England," she told newsmen. "And on the continent it's even worse you can see children dying of starvation in front of your eyes."

Accompanied by relatives she motored on the continent through Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy. She said that the highlight of her trip to Europe was a motor trip through precipitous St. Gottard Pass in Switzerland in an English car which had experienced four blowouts and was in imminent danger of a fifth.

She was met at the dock by her mother, Mrs. Frieda Glynn, 228 Central Avenue, Passaic.

Also returning on the liner was Miss Anna Woinas, 25 Jackson Avenue, Passaic.

Among the other passengers on the liner were film stars Loretta Young, Craig Stevens and Alexis Smith, returning from London after participating in the annual Command Performance, as well as stage favorites Beatrice Lillie and Gracie Fields.
