Minnie Goldblum (1881 - 1929)

The children are Moses age 14, Annie age 13, Minnie age 10, Rebecca age 8, Rachel age 6, William age 4 and Lewis age 1. Also living with them is Nellie Morgan age 17, a servant

The Goldblum family is now living at living at 75 Stocks Street, Cheetham, Manchester. Isaac Goldblum is age 51 and a jeweller and Dora age 49. The children are Moses age 25, Annie age 23, Minnie age 19 and working in the clothing industry, Rebecca age 17, Rachel age 15, Willie age 14, Louis Benjamin age 11 and Aaron age 4. Also living with them is Nellie Morgan age 17, a servant

Minnie and Jacob married in 1910 in Manchester but I am unable to locate them in the 1911 census

1921
Minnie and jacob are living at 59 Faraday Avenue, Cheetham Manchester. Jacob is age 38 and a cinema film traveller. Minnie is 40 and their son, Maurice, is age 9



Naturalization
Minnie and her family were naturalized on 27 October 1886. Her name was given as Millie and she was 5 years old at the time. The family were living at 46 Stock Street, Cheetham, Manchester

Death
15 October 1929 in Manchester, England at 48 years of age. Buried in the Rainsough Jewish cemetery, Manchester, England

Born: 12 November 1883 in Kovno, Lithuania and apparently he and his family came to Manchester, England in 1884 when he was 3 months old

  • Minnie Goldblum in (April - June) 1910 in Manchester, England. She died on 15 October 1929. Jacob was 26 years old and Minnie was 28 years old when they were married, and he was 46 when Minnie died
  • Rachel Baum in (October - December) 1930 in Manchester, England. Jacob was  47 years old and Rachel was 40 years old. They both shared the same surname but as far as I can tell they were not related to each other.

Jacob married  Minnie in 1910 in Manchester but I am unable to locate them in the 1911 census

1921
Jacob and Minnie are living at 59 Faraday Avenue, Cheetham Manchester. Jacob is age 38 and a cinema film traveller. Minnie is 40 and their son, Maurice, is age 9



1939 register
Jacob is now married to Rachel and they are living at 5 Chandos Rd, Manchester, Lancashire, England. He is a cinema film salesman. The redacted line is probably for Jacob's son Isaac, who would have been 16 at the time


Death
31 July 1966 in Manchester, England at82 years of age. Buried in the Failsworth Jewish cemetery, Manchester, England

Hebrew name: Rachel, daughter of Zelig Asher

Married: Jacob Baum in (October - December) 1930 in Manchester, England. Jacob was  47 years old and Rachel was 40 years old. They both shared the same surname but as far as I can tell they were not related to each other.

Jacob was previously married to Minnie Goldblum who died in October 1929. They had four children, Maurice born in 1912, Sarah who died in 1914, Isaac born in 1923 and Bernard. Isaac and Bernard were probably brought up by both Raie and Jacob

The children are Annie who is 13, Jane (Jeanne) is 10, Fanny is 5 and both Abraham and Rachel are 1. They have two servants, Sarah Markus age 19 from Russia and Ellen Brown age 21 from Ireland

The family is still at 46 Lord Street, Cheetham Hill, Prestwich, Manchester. Asher is still a grocer / baker / shop keeper. He is listed as born around 1856. Both he and Minnie are now naturalised British subjects. Living with them is Jane (Jeanne) age 20, Fanny age 15, Abraham, age 11, Rachel age 11 and Harold age 1


1911
The family is still at 46 Lord Street, Cheetham Hill, Prestwich, Manchester and Asher is still a grocer, age 56. Minnie is age 54 with her place of birth listed as Valkevish, Russia; Fanny is age 25 and a baker's assistant in the family shop, Rachael age 21 and Abraham age 21 (who has signed the document)


1921
The family is still at 46 Lord Street, Cheetham, Manchester. Minnie is now a widow, age 64 years and 8 months with her place of birth listed as Kovno, Russia, now Kaunas, Lithuania. She is running the grocery business. Fanny is age 36, single and also working in the grocery store as a grocer's assistant as is Rachael (spelt Raie) age 31. Abe A Baum is age 31 and is a woolen cloth merchant. The house has five rooms

Dinah Israel (1888 - 1970)

Dinah Israel, is the wife of Abraham Baum, my maternal great great uncle. In the late 1920s he changed his name to Arthur Abraham Bourne. Baum family tree Here. Rosenberg family Here

: Barnett Israel (1860 - 1934) and Elizabeth (1863 - ?). Several members of the family later changed their surname from Israel to Bennett

Born: 7 November 1888 in London, England

Married: Abraham Baum on 13 February 1923 in London, England. Abraham was 33 years old and Dinah was 34 years old. They had no children and separated sometime in 1929 but never divorced

In 1891 the family are living at 174 Brick Lane in Bethnal Green, London, England. Dinah's parents are Barnett, a picture frame manufacturer and Elizabeth, both age 31 and the children are Mary age 9, Joseph age 8, Dinah age 4 and Nathan age 1 and a half. Living with them is Barnett's mother Hannah age 52 and Fanny Dyan, age 19, a tailoress and listed as a sister-in-law


1901
In 1901 the family are still living at 174 Brick Lane in Bethnal Green, London, England. Barnett, age 41 is still a picture frame manufacturer and Elizabeth, now known as betsy, is age 39. The children are Mary age 20, Joseph age 18, Dinah age 13 and Nathan age 11, Abraham age 8, Ettie age 6, Henry age 5. Barnett's mother Hannah is now listed as Annie, age 60 and living with them is a boarder, J Babinsky age 30, who is a picture frame maker and presumably working in the family business



1911
The family are now living at 60 Ravensdale Road, Stamford Hill, London, England. Barnett and Betsy are both listed as 49 years of age. They have been married for 30 years and have had 11 children, 6 still living and 5 who have died. Barnett is now a waterproof garment maker. Living with them are their children Joseph age 27, Abraham age 18, Henry age 11, Mary age 28 who is now a widow (her husband William Jaffa died on 2 September 1908), Dinah age 21 and a milliner and Ettie age 16. Also living with them is Mary's son Leslie Jaffa age 3 and Lena Hollingsworth, a servant age 42


1939 Register
In 1939 Dinah has returned to England from North America and while still married to her husband they appear to have separated.  She is living at 4 Cheltenham Ave, Liverpool, England. She is working as a draper's assistant and living with her brother Henry, his wife Dinah and their children Bernard and Maurice. Also living there is her mother Betsy and her sister Mary Jaffa

Dinah and her family were naturalised in 1896

Migration to Canada and the USA
Canada
Abraham and Dinah entered Canada aboard the Megantic on 30 August 1924 and were going to stay in Montreal with her brother Joseph Israel Bennett (1883 - 1963)

Return to the UK
Dinah appears to have returned to the UK on 22 June 1929 when she landed in Southampton aboard the Duchess of Bedford

Dinah then returned to Canada later that year, transiting in New York where she arrived on 28 October 1929

Dinah then returned to London on 4 May 1936 aboard the Ascania, this time for good

USA
Arthur's application for American citizenship in New York on 26 July 1939. Arthur entered the USA in Swanton, Vermont from Montreal, Canada aboard the Highway on 30 August 1930. While Dinah is mentioned as his wife (with an incorrect date of birth), there is no evidence of her ever coming with him to the USA in 1930

Death
11 July 1970 in London, England at 81 years of age. She is buried at Willesden United Synagogue Cemetery, London, England, plot no LX, 37, 58

Dinah Israel Bourne probate. Her address was given as 58 West End Lane, London, England. She died on 11 July 1970 and her probate on 2 July 1971 was valued at £15,351
